Early 20th century: a fashionable seaside resort
Open Item Text:

Désiré Le Hoc, Mayor of Deauville, joins forces with the businessman Eugène Cornuché to relaunch the station, dormant since the death of the Duke of Morny (1865) and the fall of the Second Empire (1870). After having founded the Casino and Hotel Company of Deauville, Eugène Cornuché bought the Grand Hôtel du Casino in 1910 and had a new gaming establishment and the Hotel Normandy built on its site, both inaugurated in 1912, then next year, the Royal Hotel. Attracted by this luxury and the diversity of the activities offered (air meetings, car races, regattas, golf, tennis), the rich cosmopolitan clientele throngs Deauville.
